Our Specialty Performance Management System (SPMS) software provides cost effective, easy-to-use, information gathering and performance benchmarking coupled with one-to-one, personalized customer support for Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) facilities.  The Long Term Acute Care software is included on The Joint Commission’s list of acceptable ORYX® systems.

The Specialty Performance Management System was developed to furnish facilities providing Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) with a performance measurement system that will meet their comparative data/benchmarking needs. For more information on the database, click on the appropriate link on the left.

LTAC facilities are often contributing to databases that consist mainly of acute care facilities, thus not allowing for peer-to-peer data comparisons. In order to establish meaningful benchmarks and improvement opportunities, facilities in a database should consist of organizations with similar patient care needs, length of stay (LOS), and other factors. The SPMS allows LTAC facilities to compare their outcomes with those of other similar facilities thus indicating true opportunities for performance improvement efforts.

The Specialty Performance Measurement System has met the initial criteria for inclusion in the accreditation process and is included on the Joint Commission’s list of acceptable ORYX®  Vendors for Long Term Acute Care organizations.  Mellott & Associates is committed to meeting future criteria established by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (The Joint Commission), including embedding the The Joint Commission Core Measures when they become available and are applicable to these facilities.

The SPMS software system runs on a PC in the Windows environment. Versions for Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP are available. The SPMS software is based in Access software, but a facility does not need to have Access software to be able to use this program.

The copyrighted software program is provided to the participating organizations for entering the data to be submitted to the SPMS database. The software runs on a PC and is Y2K compliant. New versions of the software are provided through maintenance fees. HIPAA requirements are currently being programmed into the software as appropriate.

Graphic reports in the form of control charts and other graphs as needed are updated quarterly, comparing the facility’s performance with that of its peers in the database.  Aggregate data reports are also provided for each facility in the entire database, allowing each facility to construct other types of graphic reports as they may require.

This manual details for the participants the indicator definitions, the data collection methodologies, utilization of the SPMS Software, and the methodology for downloading the data and sending it to the SPMS system. The manual also includes information on how to understand and utilize the quarterly reports and other suggestions for improvement. This manual is updated with each new version of the software and/or when indicators are added or deleted.

This newsletter is designed to keep all members of the database informed regarding database issues identified, upcoming database improvements, and success stories regarding performance improvement efforts in participating organizations. There are separate newsletters for each of the different databases.

Mellott and Associates submits the data for those LTAC facilities utilizing the SPMS system for the The Joint Commission ORYX initiative. Utilization of the SPMS database for reporting of ORYX®  measures is optional. There is an additional charge for this service.

Individual customized facility and/or system reports may be requested. These custom reports would allow a system to compare its performance within its own system as well as within the database. There is an extra cost for these individualized reports.
